Best moment this weeks: We bought and decorated our Christmas tree.
Here is Shane picking out the perfect tree, and me enjoying said tree. It makes the house feel so cozy, I love it.

And of course the absolute best part of my week, seeing our precious little guy, and hearing that he's healthy and all is well.

I think he's definitely going to have Shane's nose, but Shane says otherwise.

 Right foot
 Left foot
Confirmation that he is in fact still a boy!

Baby Buys: Still haven't really bought anything thing for him, but can't wait to get started on the nursery.
Looking forward to: Christmas is right around the corner, and I'm looking forward to enjoying the holiday with family.

17 weeks...

 Week 17
Finally, your baby's arms, legs, and trunk have caught up to the size of his head. Baby starts plumping up this week, as body fat is deposited under his skin and sweat glands develop. Also worth noting: The placenta is almost as big as your baby. It provides vitamins, minerals, proteins, fats, and oxygen, along with removing waste and filtering carbon dioxide.

Ok, I'll be the first to admit I'm not the best at this blogging thing, but I promise I'll do my best from here on out to keep up with the weekly updates.

How far along? let's just pretend I'm still 17 weeks lol
Total weight gain/loss: up from 102 lbs to 110 lbs

Food cravings: Cinnamon rolls! They have cinnabon cinnamon rolls at Burger King and I had to have them last week! Sooo yummy

Maternity clothes? I've been wearing leggings a lot, I've got like 5 pairs, and I use my belly band over my unbuttoned jeans :)

Stretch Marks? None, knock on wood

Sleep: I'm still sleeping really well, so well that I haven't even had to get up to go to the bathroom.

Miss anything? Being able to stay awake past 8 p.m. I had to force myself not to fall asleep on the couch while watching the season finale of Sons of Anarchy the other night.

Movement: Feeling sluggish waves of movement like he's doing little somersaults in there, and little kicks.

Anything making you sick or queasy? Nope

Have you started to show? With strangers asking me when my due date is, I'm going to say yes!

Gender: Baby Holt is a Boy!

Belly Button in or out? In, but it's starting to flatten out.

Wedding rings on or off? On

Happy or moody most of the time: Happy!

Best moment this week: Decorating the house for Christmas, I love Christmas decorations!!

Baby Buys: I'm hesitant to buy things for the baby, I think I'm waiting until after the baby shower(s) unless I find something that I just can't live without!

Looking forward to: Next appointment is coming up, I can't wait to see our little guy and how much bigger he is!

I promise to post Week 18 update before Friday(19 weeks)!

Nursery Inspiration

I've gotten most ALL of my nursery inspiration from Pintrest.  Putting together a room for a boy seems so much more difficult than it is for a girl.  Maybe it's because I am a girl and I just can't resist all of the super cute, adorable, girly things :) But Pintrest has given me some pretty good ideas.

I'm in love with the grey color on the walls! I think that paint color has already been decided.  I also love the white furniture and how it looks with the grey.

I really like the pops of orange in the room above. You can add pretty much any color with the grey and it looks good.

Again in this room above I really like the pops of color with the orange wall decals and the blue curtains.  I really like the mix of white and dark wood furniture.

The white in this one just gives it a really "clean" look.

I love this grey glider with the chevron stripe blanket.

I like the bold color of the changing table in this room with the funky print on the glider.

Maternity clothes? Still fitting into my regular clothes

Stretch Marks? Nope

Have you told family and friends? Yes!

Miss anything? Didn't think I would miss being able to drink this much. But it will be more than worth it!

Doctors...

I'll start off by explaining a little about my "condition."  Most of family and close friends are familiar with it but I'll fill in those of you who aren't.

I have what is called McCune Albright Syndrome.  An extremely rare condition that causes "weak" spots in the bones among other symptoms.  These weak spots are in the right side of my body in my shoulder, hip/femur, pelvis and tibia.  The pelvis area was obviously a concern even before getting pregnant because of the added weight of the baby and weight gain during pregnancy.

So with that said, at my first prenatal visit with my OB/Gyn at our medical group Riverside Medical Clinic, the doctor referred me to "High Risk" OB at UC Irvine. This was a relief to me, having the extra care would put our concerns more at ease.

Monday I had my first appointment at UCI.  The first part of our visit was with a Genetic Counselor who went over ALL of our family history, covering siblings, aunts, uncles, cousins, grandparents etc.  The second part of the visit was the ultrasound part of the genetic testing (my favorite part).  As soon as the ultrasound tech put the ultrasound device over my belly she immediately said "I can already tell what it is, do you want to know?"  Of course we wanted to know!! It was obvious that it was a boy!! She pointed it out to us on the screen, and from then on Shane and I couldn't wipe the smiles off of our faces. Shane was so excited to hear boy, I was just happy to see him and know that everything was going well.

Pictures from the ultrasound at 13 weeks 4 days
We're so lucky to have found out the sex so early, he was in a very good position.

After the tech was done, she called in the doctor.  We met the high risk OB also known as a Perinatologist, Dr. Wing.  We were very pleased to meet her and to learn that she had previously worked with a patient with McCune Albright Syndrome!  Most doctors have never even heard of it.  We met two other that doctors, all who seemed very excited to be working with me.  Which made me very excited to be able to have such care.  Dr. Wing made the suggestion that we transfer total care from Riverside Medical Clinic there to UCI.  There was no question that I completely agreed with that suggestion.

The next day at my second prenatal visit with my doctor at Riverside Medical Clinic, I told her about the suggestion to transfer care to UCI and she had no problem doing so.  So from now on we will be traveling from San Jacinto to the city of Orange, about an hour and a half commute to my new OB!  In my opinion the care I'll receive is well worth the commute.

The Anticipation...

After many, many ovulation tests and complete uncertainty of weather or not said ovulation tests were in fact working, my follow up appointment was finally here. The first thing the Dr. had me do was give a urine sample and then anxiously wait in the exam room for what felt like an eternity. She returned to the room with my sample and a pregnancy test in hand. As I sat there she opened the test and used a dropper to take urine from the sample and drop it onto the test. She said "Okay lets wait a couple minuets and see what it says." After waiting for two years for this I guess I could wait another two minuets. Easier said than done. My palms were clammy and my heart was racing in anticipation. She looked over my records on her computer for a couple of minuets then finally looked back at the test. She gave it a good look and said "Well it looks like a positive to me." I wasn't going to be convinced until I saw the test myself. There was a nurse in the room and the Dr. asked her what she thought about the results. The nurse said "Yes it looks positive." I stood up to have a look for myself there was in fact a faint line forming under the "control" line. Immediately I was relived, excited, amazed, thrilled, so many emotions all at once! The Dr. was so nonchalant about the whole thing and I could barely contain my excitement. I couldn't wait to get out of the office and call Shane. August 30, 2012 I found out I was pregnant!!!

The Dr. let me take home the test to "show off."

Trying...

Shane (the husband) and I had been trying to conceive for about two years. After we were married we decided that I would go off birth control and if we got pregnant that we were in the right time in our lives to care for a child. And honestly I really wanted a baby. We found out I was pregnant March of last year and at my first appointment found out that I was going to have a miscarriage. Dealing with that was extremely difficult and heartbreaking. We waited some time to try again and were having some difficulty. I spoke with my Dr. about this and she told me to continue trying for at least another six months and if I hadn't conceived we'd take action from there. Six months had come and gone and still nothing. The Dr. came to the conclusion that since my cycle was somewhat irregular that I was also ovulating irregularly therefore making the timing very difficult. I was prescribed Progesterone for one week then Clomid for another week. The Clomid was supposed to make me ovulate. We could use this for up to six rounds and if that didn't work then we'd have to move on to the next step. Needless to say I was very anxious to see if the Clomid had in fact worked.

To be continued...
